***  It is with real regret that the The Harcourts Geraldine Festival Committee made the hard decision to postpone this year’s event until November 2022.

However, we’ve chosen to ‘look on the bright side’ and help celebrate all the wonderful activities and events that can take place this coming weekend, including our famous open gardens, street buskers, all-day Farmers Market, 3 wonderful art exhibitions and our boutique stores remaining open all weekend for early Christmas shopping.
Check out the programme page to see what’s on and for a map of the open gardens.  We hope that you will still take the time to visit Geraldine this weekend and help us as we make the most of things and look on the bright side

We want to take this opportunity to thank our generous naming sponsors, Harcourts Blackham & Co. and Alpine Energy, for their unwavering support during this time.  ***

2021 marks the 33rd consecutive year of the Festival in our boutique town of Geraldine, following 30 years known as the Geraldine Arts and Plants Festival.  We are delighted to welcome Harcourts, Blackham & Co., as the Festival’s naming sponsor and principal supporter of the event.

This year the festival official opening will be held on Thursday the 11th November 2021.

The Alpine Energy Art and Photographic Exhibition will have art on display from local artists, as well as from around New Zealand, together with a great selection of photographs. The exhibition opens on Thursday 11th November at 7pm and runs until Sunday 14th November closing at 3pm.

The theme for the 2021 Festival is ‘Braided River Birds‘.  Rivers are an important past of our landscape in South Canterbury, with our braided rivers providing a unique environment for a range of fauna and flora.  We plan to celebrate and highlight our rivers over the next few years through the Festival and will each year concentrate on one aspect.  This year we are highlighting the birds of our braided rivers, a number of whom are endangered.

We’re delighted to be partnering once again with the Department of Conservation, the Orari River Protection Group and BRAID to highlight the important work these organisations do protect and preserve our rivers.

Experience unique, boutique shopping in our wide range of independent local stores and an amazing selection of over 130 stalls on Friday at our market day. A sensational day out for all, save the date and make a day of it with your friends and family to enjoy the beautiful country setting of our wonderful town!

Or, make a weekend of it – but get in quick if you need accommodation as our many fantastic accommodation providers get booked out that weekend.

On Saturday visit the “Big Day” where most retailers in town will be open and over 250 wonderful stalls down at the domain – something for everyone.

We’re excited to bring “Battle of the Sounds” back this year.

A fantastic opportunity for a group, duo or solo artist to walk away with the $3,000 first prize.

We look forward to welcoming you to beautiful Geraldine to enjoy the Free, Friendly, Fun Geraldine Festival.
